Asheville & Biltmore Estate

AshevilleA trip to Asheville, North Carolina makes a great day trip (or overnight trip) from Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. It's home to the famous Biltmore Estate and has a fabulous downtown with 50 restaurants and hundreds of shops, including 30+ art galleries.

The Biltmore Estate is home to America's largest house (250 rooms), sprawling gardens, shops, restaurants, and a winery - all on 8,000 acres of beautiful countryside. If you plan to tour Biltmore Estate, begin your trip very early. You should allow a full day to explore the estate, since there is so much to see.

Allow two hours driving time one-way to Asheville (although you can usually make the 85-mile trip in 1.5 hours). The short and quicker way to get there is via US 321 North (turn at light #3). Go 26 miles to the Foothills Parkway. Take it eight miles to I-40 East to Asheville. Take exit 50 for Biltmore Estate. To go to downtown Asheville, follow I-240.

The very scenic route (but could take as much as four hours) is via US 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and follow the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville. This section of the Blue Ridge Parkway features some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country.
